Meade LX90 Telescopes
Meade's most popular Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescopes just keep getting better
The Meade LX90 series telescopes are among the most popular go-to telescopes available today. Since their initial introduction in 1999, the Meade LX90 series has seen continual improvement with the incorporation of GPS technology and Periodic Error Correction (PEC). The new LX90-ACF represents the latest step in the evolution of the LX90, and features Meade's Advanced Coma-Free (ACF) Optics. These aplanatic Schmidt-Cassegrain optics dramatically reduce coma, providing pinpoint stars all the way to the edge of field. The LX90 is available with both ACF and stand Schmidt-Cassegrain optics.
Meade originally introduced the LX90 as a visual-only as opposed to photographic platform. More recently they have returned to that position by eliminating the option to autoguide these telescopes. Perhaps even more interesting is the recent introduction of the Meade LightSwitch LS 8" telescopes with more advanced features but carrying the same price tag as the 8" LX90. The LX90 features a heavier tripod and thus we would still consider it to be the superior instrument for those who do not see the need for the fully automatic alignment capabilities of the LightSwitch.
Meade LX90-ACF Features
The LX90-ACF builds upon the feature set that thousands of LX90 owners have come to know and appreciate. Highlights of these features include the following:
- Meade AutoStar computer with a library of over 30,000 celestial objects
- A Sony GPS automatically locates the telescope's position, and also sets the date and time
- The rigid cast aluminum fork mount provides stability for both visual observing and astrophotography applications
- The standard field tripod with two-inch tubular steel legs provides a solid foundation
- The Smart Drive with Periodic Error Correction (PEC) provides the precise tracking needed for astrophotography
- Also included are a 26mm Series 4000 Plossl eyepiece, 1-1/4" prism star diagonal, and AutoStar Suite Astronomer Edition software
