Meade ETX Series Telescopes
Meade ETX Series telescopes have been the most popular entry level go-to telescopes ever produced, and many thousands of them continue to serve their owners well. The venerable ETX-90 with its AutoStar go-to computer control is credited with bringing quality optics with a go-to mount to the public at a modest cost. This development sparked a revolution in the availability of the affordable beginner go-to telescope.
Today's Meade ETX Series telescopes are available with you choice of Maksutove-Cassegrain or Refractor optics. The Maksutovs are a fine choice for lunar and planetary observing, with the ETX-125 also having enough aperture to perform well on deep space objects. The refractor optics of the ETX-80 are more suited to low tium power observing of the moon, star clusters and nebulae. We find the optics on these telescopes to be limited to about 120X magnification, which is typical of a fast focal ratio achromatic refractor of this size.
