Lunt Solar Systems Hydrogen Alpha and Calcium K Filters
These Lunt Solar filters are designed to allow you to use a general purpose astronomical telescope to safely observe the sun in either hydrogen-alpha or calcium K wavelengths. The hydrogen-alpha filters consist of a front mounted etalon filter and a rear mounted blocking filter. Normally the latter takes the physical form of a star diagonal for visual use, although straight-through versions are available for imaging applications.
Solar filters in general are most commonly used with refractors, although adapters are available for other types of telescopes as well. The Calcium K filters are built into a 2" star diagonal and may only be used with telescopes of 100mm aperture or less that also accept a star diagonal. Those requirements essentially narrow the field of potential telescopes down to small refractors featuring two-inch focusers. Use of these solar filters with telescopes of more than 100mm aperture could be dangerous to both the telescope and the user.
