Explore Scientific Telescopes

Explore Scientific currently produces three types of telescopes.

Doublet achromatic refractors represent exceptional values in large aperture refractors. Unlike some competing models, these telescopes feature adjustable lens cells should the optical collimation ever need adjustment. These telescopes are best suited for deep space observing at low to medium power. Finally one can own a diffraction-limited high quality refractor for a relatively modest investment.

Those of you looking for more in a refractor may want to consider one of the ED Apochromatic Triplets from Explore Scientific. Compare these with any other APO refractor on the market and see why we think their prices are unbeatable. As a matter of fact, these APO triplets are priced similarly to a number of competing doublet refractors. Each instrument must pass a stringent interferometer test prior to leaving the factory and is subjected to star testing here in the USA.

Also, Explore Scientific produces a Maksutov-Newtonian telescope called the David Levy Comet Hunter. Maksutov-Newtonian telescopes, or Mak-Newts, combine a concave meniscus lens with a spherical primary mirror. The purpose of the meniscus lens is to eliminate the spherical aberration that would otherwise result from the use of a spherical primary mirror. The net result of the Maksutov-Netonian design is a telescope that performs much like a high quality refractor at a fraction of the cost per unit aperture. Mak-Newts are capable of producing very low-power widefield views, yet are also capable of providing very high magnification as needed for planetary observations.
