Celestron Optical Tube Assemblies

Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain and EdgeHD telescope optical tube assemblies are available separately for use with your existing mount. In prior years some models were offered with carbon fiber tubes, however; today these tubes are offered only in the standard aluminum configuration. Celestron optical tube assemblies are available with either standard Schmidt-Cassegrain optics or a new Aplananatic Schmidt-Cassegrain configuration that Celestron refers to as the EdgeHD line. As of December 2009 the EdgeHD line was a very rare commodity with no official delivery projections coming from Celestron.

A word about dovetail bars

Celestron optical tube assemblies are offered with one of two styles of dovetail bar. The CG-5 dovetail, more commonly known as a Vixen or V style dovetail, fits the Celestron Advanced Series (a.k.a. CG-5)mount. It will also fit the Meade LXD75 mount and virtually any Vixen mount. Compatible Vixen mounts include the current generation GP, GP/D2, Sphinx, SXD, and Porta. The CGE dovetail, more commonly know as a Losmandy or D style dovetail, fits the larger and heavier Celestron CGEM and CGE Pro mount. It is also compatible with the Losmandy GM-8 and G11 mounts, as well as Astrophysics mounts.
