Celestron SkyScout Personal Electronic Sky Guide
Celestron SkyScout is a multimedia device that will teach you to navigate the night sky. The product name is a clever yet factual play on words: the SkyScout helps you to scout out objects in the sky. SkyScout is roughly the size and weight of a camcorder and includes a similar style viewfinder window. SkyScout can guide you to an object chosen from a menu list by flashing directional arrows in the viewfinder, or it can identify an object you aim it at. SkyScout does not magnify the image of the target object; it is intended to be both a celestial navigational aide and an educational device.
The Celestron SkyScout, first introduced in 2006, provides both text and audio descriptions of the most popular celestial objects. Optional SDRAM cards containing guided tours were introduced in 2008. Available titles include "All About the Stars" and "Astronomy for Beginners."
SkyScout Availability Update - February 2011
As of the fall of 2010 Celestron was changing their sourcing arrangements for this product once again. That change apparently did not go too well as the product has not been available for several months. We expect to have the SkyScout back in stock sometime in the spring of 2011.
