Celestron Power Power Supplies and Field Batteries
Celestron offers several products for providing power to their telescopes near the home or in the field. Some Celestron telescopes, including the CGEM and CPC Series, do not include any form of power supply with the base package. Other Celestron telescopes include either a battery compartment. The internal battery compartments of the Celestron SLT and SE series are a convenience, but can also be problematic if a battery should leak during prolonged storage. For this reason, we often caution people not to use these internal battery compartments at all.
The field batteries shown here are offered in two sizes: 7 or 17 amp-hours. An amp-hour is a measure of battery capacity. A 7 amp hour battery is capable of delivering one amp of current for seven hours, or two amps for 3-1/2 hours, and so on. The 7 amp-hour batteries are adequate for Celestron SLT and SE Series telescopes. We recommend the larger 17 amp for the more power hungry Advanced Series, CPC Series, and CGEM Series telescopes and mounts. A larger battery is also useful for providing power to other accessories, such as dew heaters.
